MUDRAS

“OUR HEALTH IS IN OUR OWN HANDS”

It’s a well known fact that the human body is made up of five elements, fire, air, space, earth and water. Imbalances in these elements cause diseases. These imbalances can be balanced by 'Hasta Mudras' (Hand Postures), which is simply joining of different fingers to energize and cure body ailments.

It is an interesting fact that each finger of the hand represents a different element. The thumb represents fire, index finger - air, middle finger - space, ring finger - earth and the little finger -water.  Through different combinations of these fingers (MUDRAS), we can not only control these elements but also cure many diseases.

Mudras can be practiced anytime and in any position but sitting in a lotus position or Sukhasan and focusing on the healing is advisable for better results. Mudras should be performed with both the hands simultaneously (until otherwise specified) and the fingers should remain comfortable without being held tightly.

Often Mudras will provide instant relief to several ailments but for stubborn diseases more patience will be required. Each Mudra should be performed for a minimum of five minutes and can be continued to about thirty to forty-five minutes in case of chronic cases. The Mudras can be repeated two to three times a day for faster results.

Though Mudras can be used for healing certain ailments, regular practice of Mudras will contribute to your overall good health and can be used as a preventive measure. Shunya and Vayu Mudra should be discontinued once the ailment connected to these Mudras is cured and if the ailment reoccurs the Mudra can be started again to counter it.
